Chung Hua University (CHU) believes in the transformative power of education to provide a solid foundation for the future of young people in Asia. Through comprehensive educational programmes, CHU opens many opportunities for students to secure jobs that can boost economic development in Taiwan.

Founded by socially conscious entrepreneurs, CHU is located in the dynamic Hsinchu area, which is also home to a major science and industrial park. "These businessmen wanted to provide a venue where students can receive a good education without going to Taipei and other places," says CHU president Victor Liu.

CHU is renowned for its engineering, architecture and computer science and informatics programmes. Thomson Reuters surveys have ranked CHU research papers in the field of engineering as among the world's top 1 per cent. Other notable programmes are management, humanities and social sciences and tourism.

Aside from core subjects, CHU cultivates a holistic "sunshine youth" programme on its campus. The programme aims to build the moral education, intellectual development, physical growth, social skills and artistic awareness of its students.

The strategic location of CHU provides the university with great opportunities to work with

research-driven and innovation-focused companies. CHU collaborates with 15 major firms to provide practical training for students. Partner companies include semiconductor specialist United Microelectronics Corporation and textile manufacturer Ruentex Industries.

Designed for local and international students, CHU's theoretical and practical education approach has attracted foreigners who comprise 5 per cent of the total student body. The university aims to increase this to 15 per cent in the next five years.

Partnerships with international universities also serve as platforms to attract foreign students and research collaboration. CHU has embarked on academic co-operation with international academic institutions such as Tongji University and Jiao Tong University on the mainland and Czech Technical University.
