TOP Chinese sports official Wei Jizhong will seek the help of local sports supremo A. de O. Sales in settling the power struggle within the Hong Kong and Kowloon Volleyball Association (HKVA).
Wei was appointed by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) to look into the matter after deposed HKVA president Shek Chun-tak informed the world body that he was illegally stripped of his title by Tang Kin-kwok.
The Chinese Olympic Committee secretary general said that although the FIVB is concerned about the affairs of all its members, it is up to the Amateur Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong to settle the HKVA issue.
'This is the HKVA's internal matter and according to the FIVB rules, the local NOC should resolve the issue themselves,' said Wei, chairman of the FIVB rules and regulations committee.
'The Basic Law states that the Chinese NOC cannot interfere with the autonomy of Hong Kong sports associations, so the ASF & OC have the responsibility to settle the problem.' On another matter, Wei said China still has to decide whether they will bid for the 2004 Olympics.
International Olympic Committee president Juan Antonio Samaranch said last Wednesday that he was not optimistic China would bid for the 2004 Games.
