Ivanisevic ready to hit form
ACE machine Goran Ivanisevic is confident he can pull himself out of a recent slump by the time he competes in this month's Marlboro Championships at Victoria Park.
Disappointed by his own performances at this year's French and US Opens and even last month's Davis Cup tie against India where Croatia lost 3-2, the volatile Croatian says he usually plays his best tennis during this time of year and he is hopeful he will finally play to the form expected of a world number seven.
Speaking from Croatia, Ivanisevic said: 'It is right that I did not perform well at the French Open. At the US Open I was unlucky to twist my ankle and to retire in the first round.
'My hard court season in the US during the summer had been good and I was confident going into Flushing Meadow.
'I am quite confident about the coming weeks because I always play very well during this time of year. My previous year's performances are there to prove it. I believe this year I will also have strong last months,' said Ivanisevic, who is the top draw card for the Marlboro Championships which begin on October 17.
Ivanisevic has just overcome a stomach virus which affected his play during Croatia's Davis Cup tie against India two weeks ago. The two-time Wimbledon finalist had to withdraw from his first-round match at last week's Swiss men's indoor tournament in Basle.
Ivanisevic said he was excited about making his first appearance here.
'The players coming to the Marlboro Championships are good and I look forward to the challenge. It's my first time in Hong Kong and I want to make it a success story,' he said.
