No more of this claptrap
R.J. Fletcher's nonsensical letter about tobacco advertising, which appeared in the South China Morning Post, on October 6, is typical of the tobacco industry's misleading propaganda.
Some time ago we had 'there is no scientific evidence showing a causal relationship between smoking and cancer'.
Now the industry is using the line that 'there is no causal relationship between ad bans and reduction in smoking' to keep peddling its deadly product.
Scientific causality is not the point Mr Fletcher.
The fact is there is also no causal relationship between running across the road without looking and getting run over.
However, only a fool would suggest that we don't do all we can to discourage it.
Banning advertising will deprive the tobacco industry of an important means of encouraging people to start and to continue smoking.
So, no more of this claptrap - ban the adverts now.
