Pondering Patten's future

HOW strange the similarities between Mr Mikhail Gorbachev and Mr Chris Patten. What a coincidence. Perestroika and glasnost, openness and accountability. Both had high ideals, both 'died' by the sword that they had themselves made. One from a communist society and one from a capitalist society, but how to tell the difference. Now Mr Gorbachev treads the speakers circuit along with other dinosaurs such as Margaret Thatcher and George Bush, so what does the future hold for Mr Patten? Alas, the same fate would seem to be inevitable.

The moral of the story is if you want to stay in power do not have high ideals or bring on to the statute books any openness, freedom and accountability or you will be swallowed by your own monsters. New legislators you have been warned.
