24 rice cookers clinched 15-year link

GUEST of honour at this year's National Panasonic Cup day will be a family of the family that brought the world an amazing array of electric and electronic gadgets and now-indispensable household products.

Masayuki Matsushita, Senior Managing Director and a member of the Board of Japan's giant Matsushita Electric corporation, will join more than 300 guests in the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club box at Sha Tin today.

The event is staged by the Shun Hing Group, the sole agents for National Panasonic products in Hong Kong, under the auspices of its chairman, Dr William Man-wai Mong.

Shun Hing struck up its association with Matsushita in 1959 - and within a year the first 24 National electric rice-cookers were on sale in Hong Kong. From then on the relationship blossomed and Shun Hing became a highly successful community-conscious organisation in the territory.

Dr Mong is a leading businessman, deeply involved in ensuring a smooth transition of Hong Kong to China and a generous supporter of local charities.

The group is happy that its sponsorship of the National Panasonic Cup, amounting to some $830,000, finds it way through the Jockey Club to the annual distribution of funds to charity.

Its corporate mission statement includes an emphasis on contributing towards the well-being of the communities in its marketplace by being an active corporate citizen through to the 21st century.
