Cabbies quit hunger strike

TWENTY taxi drivers wanting a midnight surcharge of $3 for each trip called off their 30-hour hunger strike outside Government House yesterday.

They said they preferred the surcharge to having general fares increased. The Transport Advisory Board approved a 8.5 per cent rise in flagfall to $14 last Tuesday. The action began at 3 pm on Friday.
