GUANGXI police have made their biggest seizure of bear paws and arrested three traffickers.
Officers received a tip-off last month and ambushed the trio, the Hong Kong China News Agency reported yesterday.
Thirty-nine bear paws were seized from the traffickers.
The three, who were travelling from Guiyang in Guizhou province to Liuzhou in Guangxi, were identified as Lan Chaogui, Xiong Rimao and Xie Fangyun. All three are from Sichuan.
The report described the quantity of the seizure as staggering, and said the trio apparently bought the paws on the black market in Guiyang.
China bans the trafficking of bear parts but is unable to put a stop to the vibrant black market trade.
