Job hunt extends to China
CHINA'S People's Daily has been carrying recruitment advertisements for a vice-chancellor to lead City University beyond 1997.
The university, which also advertised in Hong Kong, Britain, the US, Canada, Australia, Singapore and Taiwan has attracted more than 70 candidates.
The selection committee will report its progress at a meeting today.
A university spokesman said the recruitment advert was part of a decision to tap the widest pool of talent. The university is searching for a replacement for Professor Cheng Yiu-chung, who will move to the University of Hong Kong next year to succeed Professor Wang Gungwu as vice-chancellor.
Fluency in Chinese and appreciation of Chinese culture are key criteria for applicants.
