Greenery on display

DID you know that waste paper, pieces of plastic, empty cans and even soft-drink bottles are now being used in floral design? And very effectively, too, as visitors will see at the Green Hong Kong Carnival which starts today at the Piazza and Arcade of Kowloon Park.

This new trend of floral design, called Egitsu Ikebana, is just one of many unusual attractions at the five-day Green Carnival.

Visitors will be fascinated at many of the ingenious designs which combine trash with nature to create this striking new form of Ikebana.

Meanwhile, many of nature's most beautiful flowers and plants including the Chinese cymbidium, African violet will be on exhibit, plus bonsai and house plants.

For children, there will be games stalls and plant propagation practice.

The carnival is open from 9 am to 5 pm. Admission is free.
