Moore's happy New Year return Down Under
By ROBIN PARKE
FORMER French and multiple Hong Kong champion jockey Gary Moore makes a New Year's Day return to Australia.
He will partner former International Races contender Dark Ksar for Peter Hayes in the Perth Cup in the Western Australian capital.
Moore has had two false starts when attempting to ride in Australia for the first time since returning to the saddle 10 months ago.
'As far as I know, the horse has been in good form recently and they give him a chance in the race. He is owned by Raymond Tai who has Peony in Hong Kong and he has wanted me to ride the horse before,' said Moore.
The Perth Cup may not be quite what it was but it is still a famous race on the Australian calendar.
'I have ridden in Perth twice before. The first time I rode two winners and the second time I broke my collarbone. At least my visits have not been uneventful,' said Moore, who still has tentative plans to ride again briefly in Europe.
'I am not prepared to go there and just take a chance. I must have something lined up for a couple of months in the summer.'
