YEUNG Man-Chiu is yet to become a professional photojournalist, but that does not mean he is oblivious to the real world of journalism.
During his five-year 'stint' with the camera, the 17-year-old has been in many situations that have brought him close to the feeling of being a professional.
'Once I was taking photographs of a mosque and a tree nearby, and after I finished a worshipper dashed out of nowhere and started yelling at me in a foreign tongue and chased me.
'I had no idea what he wanted but the only thing I knew for sure was he wasn't friendly. So I ran for my life,' recounted the vice-chairman of Wong Tai Shan Memorial College's Photo Club.
To cut a long story short, Man-chuiu managed to make a safe getaway. If that story is is not exciting enough, he has another.
He recalled that once a policeman on patrol threatened to confiscate his roll of film after Man-chiu took a few shots of them patrolling.
'But I meant no harm. Policemen and firemen are my favourite subjects, especially when they are on duty, facing challenges.
