School sets up first PTA to help students
SHA TIN Government Secondary School has set up a Parent-Teacher Association with the combined efforts of some 30 parents and nine teachers on the Preliminary Preparatory Committee.
The first general meeting was held recently in the school hall.
Over 100 parents and teachers attended and members and officers of the Standing Committee were elected.
Ms Lo Fung-yee was voted the chairman of the PTA.
'We will strive to foster a better link and understanding among parents, to enhance co-operation and communication between the school and parents, and to lend support to the school in educating our children,' Ms Lo said.
Principal Ma Siu-leung said the PTA was an important part of modern school management.
'It plays a vital role in promoting understanding and communication between the school and parents and encouraging co-operation and mutual trust.' Mr Ma added that parents, by joining the PTA, wish to help students, not spy on them.
