I WISH to express my support for the views of Mr David Saywell (South China Morning Post, January 5), regarding the impending loss of the banyan trees in Sports Road.

  If China has, as I understand it, banned horse racing in the mainland, it will no doubt do the same here in 1997, so let's keep the trees.

  I also thought Sports Road was a public rather than a private road.
