With dedication to quality, freshness and nutrition, Lay Hong has become a trusted supplier of poultry products in Malaysia. Under the NutriPlus and Wise Choice brands, the company's offerings range from regular, speciality and liquid eggs to fresh chicken, frankfurters and nuggets. Lay Hong's brands have become bywords for cleanliness and health among households. The company supplies to food majors such as MacFood, Unilever and Gardenia Bakeries.

"Our highly integrated production system lends us complete control over product quality," says Yap Hoong Chai, group managing director. "We have the spectrum of certifications to ensure biosecurity across the whole value chain."

The company is among the first in Malaysia to modernise by adopting closed-house system farms, which ensure optimal environment control and reduce cross-contamination from external factors.

Lay Hong also has invested heavily in downstream operations such as an integrated processing factory producing Malaysia's first air-chilled fresh chicken products. The facility uses refrigerated air instead of microbe-spreading water.

The company is certified, among others, under Malaysia's Hazard Analysis Critical and Control Point scheme for its food safety systems and the Salmonella Control Eradication Programme for biosecurity. On top of these, Lay Hong is halal-certified and satisfies regular third-party and client audits.

"Our products encapsulate nutrients important for a healthy lifestyle," says Yap Chor How, marketing director.

In particular, Lay Hong has raised the selenium content of its eggs using a special feed it developed with animal health company Alltech Biotechnology. This natural method also allows Lay Hong to produce eggs with more omega-3 and 50 per cent less cholesterol.

From a single layer farm supplying less than 80,000 eggs daily, Lay Hong has grown to become an integrated farming company with a production capacity of 1.6 million eggs per day and 1.5 million broiler birds a month. To keep up with the demand, Lay Hong plans to double its capacity. The company welcomes investors who share its commitment to cleanliness and health as it expands into Asian markets such as China, Indonesia, Thailand and Myanmar.
