Biancone's dynamic duo hold the key
PATRICK Biancone's riders, the master senior jockey Eric Legrix and the champion apprentice Simon 'Hong Kong' Yim look to hold the key to the feature San Miguel Silver Tankard at Sha Tin tomorrow.
The San Miguel is always one of the best handicaps of the season and tomorrow it is also the middle pin to the Triple Trio which requires punters to find the first three, in any order, in races three, four and six. Legrix rides Biancone's main Derby hope Deauville while Yim is on the up-and-coming English import Super Team whose name will be forever etched into the annals of local racing history as the horse who provided the legendary Tony Cruz with his final winner.
Just to keep it in the family, Super Team is trained by Biancone's former assistant, Stephen Leung. Biancone has given Deauville a break after he disappointed second-up this season and he looks to have thrived for that respite. He trialled reasonably well down the straight 1,000-metre course recently and since then has been noted working really well in two strong gallops including yesterday when he simply toyed with stablemate Quick Silver.
The grey may only be a Class Five performer but he's one of the most fluent workers in Biancone's yard. It was a good effort from Deauville to handle him the way he did. Super Team is pushed up to a mile by Leung after winning over 1,200 metres last time and over that distance in England.
He is also racing from a 13-pound higher handicap mark so he hasn't been missed for his 33/4-length dismissal of Leprechaun. Yim will need to get him settled tomorrow to see out the trip but he is bred to run a mile and could be a smart horse in the making. The opening leg of the Triple Trio is reserved for local riders. Alex Yu, big value for his 10-pound claim, will make an appreciable difference to Everwell Times' chances.
Keith Kwok is nowhere near the same value for his 10-pound claim but he does get on well with New Leaf who has been working fluently for Derek Cruz over the last few weeks. The final leg of the Triple Trio should see big runs from two horses that ran well last time out - Fairy Fun and American Eagle. Fairy Fun has been working the track down for Wong Tang-ping as has American Eagle for Andy Leung.
