Crying shame of abandoned baby

Bin baby . . . police have appealed for help tracing the parents of a four-day-old baby girl found by a nurse in a rubbish bin in Choi Wan Estate, Kowloon Bay.

The baby underwent a minor operation at the United Christian Hospital to stitch up a head wound and is now in a stable condition. She was found in a plastic bag in a waste basket outside the mutual-aid centre of the Kwoon Yat Building, where 26-year-old nurse Jim Yat-ha lives. Miss Jim, who works at Wong Tai Sin Hospital, came out of her flat early yesterday and saw a crowd milling around the basket. The baby's wailing sounded like a frightened cat. Miss Jim, who admitted the baby to hospital, reportedly wants to adopt it because they share the same birth date. The Social Welfare Department said the girl would be admitted to a government children's centre while the search for her parents goes on.
