AN 83-YEAR-OLD on bail for slashing his daughter-in-law in a domestic dispute on Friday, was found dead in Shau Kei Wan yesterday.

Cheung Yan apparently fell as he came down an eight-step staircase to the ground-floor car park of Yiu Fai House, Yiu Tung Estate, shortly after 8.30 am. He was dead on arrival at Eastern Hospital.

Police do not suspect foul play. However, a spokesman said: 'We are looking into whether he fell accidentally or he committed suicide.' Cheung (above) was arrested after his daughter-in-law, 40, was slashed with a knife.

Both were injured in the struggle in the kitchen of a 10th-floor flat of Ngan Chun Yuen House, Yiu Tung Estate.

After being treated at Eastern Hospital, Cheung was released on bail of $500 and ordered to report to Shau Kei Wan police station tomorrow.

While at the flat interviewing family members, police discovered Cheung's 73-year-old wife had overstayed her visa.

She was also arrested, but later released on bail.

Cheung's daughter-in-law was still in hospital last night.
