Cultures meet on catwalk

FOR the first time in Hong Kong, India's top designers and supermodels are showcasing the latest East-meets-West fashion next month.

The Indian Arts Circle is staging the glamorous 'Eye On India' at The Regent on February 6.

India's most famous beauty queens - Miss Universe 1994 Sushmita Sen and Miss World 1994 Aishwaria Rai - are expected to attend.

Eight top Indian designers will be presenting their collections. They are JJ Walia, Rana Gill, Suneet Verma, Sunita Shankar, Bobby and Manju Grover, Sujeet Mukarjee, Ashima Jain and Asish Soni.

The supermodels on the catwalk will include Madhu Sapre, Anu Ahuja, Achla Sachdev, Sandra Allison, Margret Barar, Bindhu Bashist, Suneet Lana, Allison Ganghua, Milan Soman, Sonia Dughal, Mark Robinson and Jessica and Casper.

Tickets cost $1,200.

It promised to be an evening of pure glamour, said Mrs Reshan Narain, chairman of the 'Eye On India' organising committee.

'At a time when India is achieving greater prominence on the global stage and Indian fashion is inspiring so many couturiers at an international level, this show promises to be a one-of-a-kind affair.' It has been organised in conjunction with the Indian Government and the National Institute of Fashion Technology.

Proceeds will go to the Chinmaya International Residential School which is opening in Coimbatore.
