JOINT Liaison Group (JLG) experts have made major progress on the mechanism for the application of more than 200 international agreements on Hong Kong after the changeover.

Speaking at the end of a two-day meeting, Chinese representative Wang Weiyang said the agreement would be announced at next week's full meeting of the JLG.

He said the mechanism was a 'very complicated, particular and professional issue'.

But it was important to Hong Kong's prosperity and stability as well as to its future development.

'I'm very delighted to say that we have made major progress,' Mr Wang said.

British representative, Acting Law Officer James Hanratty, said the progress was the result of joint efforts of the two sides in the past six years.
