GOLDEN lost more valuable ground in the First Division title race when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Frankwell at Mongkok Stadium last night.

Golden, who finished third in the first phase of the competition, needed Anto Grabo's ninth goal of the campaign to spare the blushes.

Grabo cancelled out Wan Ho-yin's 37th-minute header with a header of his own in the 70th minute in the first local league match after the break for the Asian Cup qualifiers.

It was Golden's first local game for 40 days and they fell behind to Maher's opener when the Englishman nodded home at the near post from a Wong Fuk-wing corner.

Golden, who were without suspended defender Marlon van der Sander and winger Lee Fuk-wing, struck back with Grabo's close-range header from a Chiu Chung-man corner.

Golden defender Tang Chi-ming had missed an opportunity to equalise just before the break when he was slow to capitalise on a goalkeeping error by Yam Wai-hung, who failed to hold Carlton Fairweather's long-range shot.

There is little change in the standings with Golden sixth and Frankwell seventh.
