CUHK Business School: Why Isn't Everyone Trying to Get In Here?

The Chinese University of Hong Kong Business School, or CUHK business school for short, is a rapidly rank-climbing business school located in the Shatin region of Hong Kong. CUHK business school has gotten a lot of attention recently for the quality education they offer students, and just last year, it was ranked seventeenth on the Financial Times EMBA list, twenty-seventh worldwide on Global MBA Rankings list, and fourth in excellence in all of Asia. CUHK has been around since 1963, but has made marked gains in its notoriety since its later inception in 1966. So what makes the CUHK business school so special, and why should a potential MBA student want to attend there?

For one, CUHK business school’s high ranking allows the college is able to pull the best students. In its latest incoming MBA class, CUHK business school boasted students from over twenty-two countries around the world. Obviously the appeal of studying in China isn’t Chinese-specific; these international students know they are in for a quality education. In fact, any hesitation about studying in Hong Kong for internationals is quickly relieved because all of CUHK business school’s classes are taught in English, too. For the daring or the entrepreneurial, there are also classes offered in Chinese, a smart language to learn for any upcoming businessman or woman in the new millennium.

Beyond the English-focused format, CUHK business school offers a fairly mainstream MBA format, with the basic curriculum focused in the first year of study with electives in the second. Students have the opportunity to major in various areas with their MBAs, including Business in China, Entrepreneurship, Finance, or Marketing. In this international MBA format, it takes about sixteen months for a full-time student to graduate. The school does allow students to study at their own pace, or if a student is lucky enough to land an internship while attending, CUHK business school will accommodate this, too. The school wants to see its students succeed.

Graduates have worked for highly acclaimed, global companies that include Accenture, Citibank, Dell, Ernst & Young, General Electric, Johnson & Johnson, Nestle, Sony, and Walmart. Obviously, headhunters see something special in CUHK business school grads. In fact, full-time MBA graduates have astounding success once they leave. 90% of graduates received job offers. Better yet, nearly all these graduates have found an increase in their post-MBA salary. Some have even found a 300% increase in their income after graduating.

CUHK business school is a good investment for any undergraduate looking to make their mark on the business world. Wherever a student resides now, CUHK business school is a great place to continue student life. With the school’s climbing global ranking, its standard MBA format with classes offered in English, and the amount of job opportunities that seem to await CUHK business school graduates, the question is, why isn’t everyone trying to get in admissions?
