THE article by Eric Anderson (''Can the press prompt suicide?'' South China Morning Post, January 9), on possible connections between media reporting and increases in the suicide rate, is a model of good journalism: wide-ranging, well-researched, informative and intelligent. As one of the editors quoted by Mr Anderson says: ''The individual death is not news. The trend is the news.'' I am also impressed with your newspaper's restraint and sensitivity in reporting on recent cases of child and adolescent suicides. We hope that this restraint will provide a model for Hongkong's other media, including newspapers, magazines, TV and radio.
