Mainland coins in local debut
A SERIES of commemorative coins depicting Chinese civilisation and minted by the People's Bank of China will make their debut in Hong Kong today.
The Yellow River series consists of two gold and five silver coins, valued at a total of more than $36,000.
They are the first in a set of three commemorative issues to be brought out over the next three years.
All coins in the first series bear the design of a dragon on one side and feature images of early emperors on the other.
Most of the coins are expected to sell in Hong Kong, and the rest will be marketed in Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, America and Europe, said Pi Zhikai, deputy general manager of the China Gold Coin Inc, the solely authorised mint of gold coins under the People's Bank of China.
