Apple Daily readership goes up as main rivals plunge
THE Apple Daily is the big winner in SRH readership ratings for July to December 1995.
The newspaper, owned by Jimmy Lai, captured 23 per cent of the Chinese market with a daily readership of 1.23 million.
With the exception of the Sing Tao Daily and Hong Kong Economic Times, all the other Chinese-language papers suffered double digit decreases in readership. The Oriental Daily News, the Apple Daily's chief rival, suffered a 16 per cent drop in readership but managed to retain its crown as the territory's number one newspaper with 26 per cent of the market and 1.41 million readers.
Sing Pao, Tin Tin Daily News and the Hong Kong Daily News all plunged between 22 per cent and 28 per cent in readership.
