Yangtze River valley set to attract investment

THE economic belt along the Yangtze River is set to become the favoured place for foreign investment in the next five years.

An economic co-ordination meeting, which closed in Shanghai on Tuesday, disclosed that more than 100 projects, scheduled for construction along the Yangtze River valley in the period, would offer opportunities for Chinese and foreign investors.

One attraction is the further opening of the Pudong new area in Shanghai, the Three Gorges project, which requires and investment of 300 billion yuan (about HK$279 billion), and the construction of expressways and railways along the river.

The river valley area, which includes seven provinces and Shanghai, is regarded as the most economically dynamic area in China, according to a report in Xinhua (the New China News Agency).
