A SUSPECTED triad member who had allegedly used the name of a different triad gang when he went to collect protection money in Wan Chai was arrested by police in Mongkok yesterday.

When arrested, the 44-year-old man confessed that he was a member of the Wo On Lok triad but he used the name of the Wo Hop To gang when he approached shop owners to collect protection money.

Police believe the man was involved in a spate of blackmail of shop owners in Wan Chai in recent months.

On October 20, the suspect, claiming to be a member of the Wo Hop To triad, entered a shop in Lan Fong Road and demanded the proprietor give him $300.

The proprietor reported the matter to police after he was issued with a receipt for the payment. When arrested, two similar blank receipts were allegedly found on the suspect.

Meanwhile in Tuen Mun, police arrested two youths alleged to have attempted to blackmail the proprietor of a fast food shop in Chi Lok Garden.
