Refurbished airport bank back soon

I REFER to Mr F. E. Faulkner's letter headlined, ''Uncaring bank'' (South China Morning Post, January 8).

I believe I can put Mr Faulkner's mind at ease, and that of other airport customers requiring banking facilities at Kai Tak, by confirming that a banking facility at the departures level will again be available from January 21.

The closure of this bank was due to the completion of the concession agreement. The premises are currently being refurbished by the bank which has been awarded the new concession, and the work will be completed very soon.

Furthermore, to enhance the availability of cash and other electronic banking services at the airport, we will soon be issuing an invitation for banks to tender for automatic teller machines, to be placed in a number of locations within the terminal building.

We believe that this will further improve the banking services available at Kai Tak.

Meanwhile can we take the opportunity to apologise to Mr Faulkner and other airport users for the temporary withdrawal of the airport's banking facility.
