Singapore cargo up

Singapore's Changi Airport last year posted close to a 10 per cent annual increase in the volume of air cargo it handled, and is pursuing expansions plans to accommodate future growth, officials say.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore said the airport handled 1.1 million tonnes of air cargo last year, up 9.5 per cent from 1994.

Director-general of civil aviation Wong Woon Liong said the Changi air freight centre would be expanded from 47 to 67 hectares over the next 20 years.
