Still waiting for reimbursement from airline

I am writing to complain about the incompetence of Philippine Airlines. I bought tickets from Sydney to Manila and Hong Kong. (I also purchased Hong Kong to Manila and Melbourne tickets but had no problem with those).

The transit in Manila was an overnight stopover for which hotel accommodation was meant to be provided.

On arrival at Manila Airport, I was told by the unhelpful, ill-informed and rude Philippine Airlines staff that I had to make my own way to the hotel, costing me HK$78.

On arrival at the Bayview Park Hotel, I was told that my booking had been cancelled. They kindly arranged another hotel for me.

This took three hours and cost me another $78 in taxi fares.

The next morning, I caught a taxi from the Traders Hotel, costing HK$78 to the airport. On arrival, I was told that the flight was overbooked by at least 100 people I was informed I had to wait until March 2 for the next available flight. (It was February 26). Otherwise, I could arrange my own flight on another airline to get to Hong Kong and get reimbursed in Hong Kong. I ended up getting a China Airlines flight via Taipei, costing me HK$1,514.

I am still awaiting a total of HK$1,748 from Philippine Airlines.

Why wasn't I told that the flight was over-booked at the time of purchase? Why were the Philippine Airlines staff so unhelpful? Where is the money I am owed? I call this highway robbery - or should I say airline robbery? There were at least another 100 people in a similar situation; is this a normal Philippine Airline practice? DAISY WAI Sha Tin
