Installation team fine-tunes system
The Customer Installation Section's ISO 9002 covers the complete inspection of a customer's electrical installation prior to the supply of electricity.
In addition to inspections, the section provides an appointment service, issues reports and gives advice.
'When planning for ISO, we took a project approach,' said Kung Sin-kwong, the customer installation engineer.
'A project team was set up which included a management representative, a deputy management representative and other key members of the section.
'This team was then responsible for drawing up the programme and preparing the section for audit. We reviewed the system step by step and carried out extensive training for all staff.' Only one minor non-conformance was found during the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency audit and the certification was awarded on November 30 last year.
The Customer Installation Section already operated a quality management system and ISO certification gave the section the opportunity to improve and formalise the system.
As a result, Mr Kung said there was a more formal document control system and also an improvement in manpower scheduling and better monitoring of performance.
He said the recognition had been a great morale booster.
COMPETENCY RECOGNISED Several laboratories of Hongkong Electric have obtained accreditation from the Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme, including Lamma Power Station's Laboratory and the Standards Laboratory of the Transmission and Distribution Division's Meter Section. Lamma Power Station's laboratory obtained its second certificate in January this year for chemical testing of coal.
