Hong Kong-based Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has opened its first office in Copenhagen, to develop business in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, the Baltic states and Russia.

Jim Poon, chairman and managing director of OOCL (Europe) said: 'OOCL ScanBaltic will sharpen our focus on customers' needs in the region and deliver a stronger, more consistent service.

'This gives us better access to an important market for trade and we are confident it will provide excellent opportunities for growth.

'With the emergence of global alliances whereby services are shared between shipping firms, we believe strengthening our focus on customer services and improving our operating efficiency are critical,' he added.

OOCL, has main truck services (through Rotterdam, Bremerhaven and Hamburg) between the Baltic and Asian and North American markets. There are three weekly departures from Asia and six weekly sailings from North America to the Baltic region.
