Youngsters outshine Olympians

RISING star Robin Lamsam, already a seasoned international, was overshadowed by a budding young rival at the short-course age group gala at the Hongkong Sports Institute in Sha Tin yesterday.
Lamsam, the territory's only woman swimmer at the Barcelona Olympics, was beaten by Lung En-ting in two races for girls aged 15 to 17.
Lung, who also won the 100 metres butterfly, beat Lamsam in the 100 metres backstroke and 100 metres medley races. Lamsam made amends by winning the 200 metres freestyle.
Another Olympian, Michael Wright, was the only entrant in the 50 metres breaststroke and 200 metres freestyle, only producing moderate times, and his only actual race as such saw a comfortable but far from impressive victory in the 100 metres individual medley.
Impressive were Ann Wong Hoi-wun (girls under-10s), Chan Lai-kwan (girls 11-12), Katie Lau King-ting (girls 13-14), Alex Fong Lik-sun (boys 11-12) and Billy Kwok Sze-wai (boys 13-14).
