Authorities are not doing enough to halt a deluge of pornographic games hitting amusement arcades, a group of district councillors said yesterday.

The claim came after a study by the Democratic Party's Kwai Tsing branch revealed that most of 70 adult amusement centres in the area had pornographic games.

The study also showed these centres were visited by children under 16, the minimum age for adult games arcades.

Kwai Tsing District Board member Ng Chung-tak said the minimum age limit should be raised to 18. One of the most popular games found in the arcades challenges players' mahjong skills. When the player wins a round, a girl on the screen strips, until she is eventually naked.

Mr Ng said police and officials from the Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority had not put enough effort in to stamping out such games.

He said the 1993 Amusement Game Centres Ordinance states game centres need a licence from the authority.

To get a certificate, arcades should submit their games for inspection.

He said police should step up inspections of arcades.
