Broken promise on noisy work
I agree with C. Ma's letter headlined 'Appalled by noise pollution' (South China Morning Post, April 17).
In its wisdom, the laughably misnamed Environmental Protection Department (EPD) granted a licence to have work carried out inshore at Stanley Bay between 7am and 11pm, 365 days a year.
After numerous complaints by residents, promises were made not to allow work to begin before 8am, but these promises have been broken. Work has since started at 6.45am: employees shouting, loud diesel engines, clanking equipment.
When will short-term financial concerns stop trampling on the public interest? CLIVE RIGBY Stanley
