Strike Out ready to yield dividends

Impressive local handler Alex Wong Siu-tan has yet another winner waiting to happen in his stable in the shape of the hitherto decidedly moderate Strike Out.

The five-year-old Irish-bred gelding had failed to run in the prize money on any of his previous nine starts prior to last night's second event, won emphatically by the Derek Cruz-trained Precious Bobo.

That record didn't change but the way Strike Out shaped, storming home up the far rail only to meet considerable interference, it won't be long before he starts repaying his connections' investment.

Strike Out patently found the 1,200-metre sprint distance on the short side but he had improved markedly in his work since joining Wong and he took that work into his race last night.

Right out the back turning for home, he was making up ground hand over fist in the final 300 metres only to be blocked completely in his run on the inside of Always Luck.

It was an effort which oozed promise for the future.
