Choosing the Top 10 computer games ever created probably is one of the most difficult tasks for any gamer.

To quote the popular saying, 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' or, in this case, the 'best games are in the eye of the gamer'.

Well, this is my Top 10, some of which might be way too old for some people to remember.

Pac-Man is one of the first-generation games designed by Namco.

 It came out in the early 1980s along with games such as Space Invaders and Galaga.

 Pac-Man is a simple game of controling the direction of our hero around a maze, avoiding the ghosts, and eating all the dots.

 It originally was going to be called Puck-Man but was later changed to the name we all know today.

Double Dragon was a PC game released in the mid-80s.

 This game was the inspiration for Final Fight and other games of the genre.

 The game is simple, all you had to do was to beat all the bad guys to a pulp, and not get beaten to a pulp yourself.

  As you progress, your fighter will gain new forms of attacks, like head butting and back kicks.

 I spent most of my school lunch breaks playing this game in the computer club when it first came out - until it was banned for fear of damage to the keyboards.

Tetris, I do not think there can be anyone who does not know this game - even if they have not played it they definitely must have heard the game's music.

  Tetris was released first in 1987 in the arcades. The amazing thing about this game was that it seemed to be everywhere when it became available on a Game Boy.

 The gameplay of this game is quite simple - just fit the falling shapes into place so that they form a line. These lines would then disappear giving the player points, more points for more lines that are made in one go.

If a player made four lines disappear at once then he gets loads of points, this is called a tetris, hence the name of the game.

 Street Fighter 2 was an arcade smash hit created by Capcom.

   It has made it to nearly every form of media (with the exception of radio) including a box-office hit movie which starred Jean-Claude Van Damme.

  In Japan, they also have made an animated series and a movie, with a sequel in the pipeline as well.

    Four sequels to Street Fighter 2 have been released in the last 21/2 years: Super Street Fighter 2, Street Fighter Zero, Street Fighter Zero 2, and Street Fighter Movie Edition.

  This is a one-on-one fight to the death game. The characters in this game all have different fighting techniques and special moves, which are done with twist and turns of the joystick. The player can shoot deadly energy balls at the opponent or kick him several times with a hurricane kick.

 Final Fantasy 3. This is the American version. The original Japanese version was called Final Fantasy 6.

  When this game was released in 1994, it was the first 24-megabyte role-playing-game (RPG for short) for any home platform.

  It had excellent graphics, sound and storyline and was voted best RPG game of 1994 by every video games magazine and also won the best soundtrack of 1994 as well.

  The game is basically about a group of rebels fighting the evil ideas of the Empire. The game gives you a number of quests to find and save all sorts of things and people. In the process your characters climb to more levels and learn new magic spells, all in the name of freedom, justice, peace and the American way.

 Gradius 3 was one of the first games I bought when I first got my 8-bit Nintendo system, and I have never regretted it. This space ship 'shoot-'em-up' had me playing for weeks, and also gave me a sore thumb.

  The game haves you pilot a small spaceship to fight hordes of alien baddies, for what reason I don't know. The player goes through stages and stages of battles, and endless bosses to beat the head honcho, which actually is a giant head.

  Some people would argue that Sega's R-type was the best in this category, but in my opinion, they just created a modified version on the same theme.

 Donkey Kong Country was the game which showed the world of video gamers that the Super Nintendo was indeed the better 16-bit system.

  It is the best 32 meg game ever designed.

  It stunned every gamer with its amazingly detailed computer-generated graphics and extremely smooth video animation. The game is simply flawless.

  The player controls either Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong (a younger version of DK) and they have to fight, jump, pounce, and swim their way to a big mean Crocodile that lives in a castle.

 Doom, probably the bloodiest game ever, was another hit success. It was everyone's dream to blow away Hell Spawn into a bloody mess with a shotgun.

  It was a game with loads of violence and buckets of blood which appealed to nearly every macho guy from the age of 4 to 65.

  This also was the first game you could play over the Internet. I have heard from my Uni friends that, when bored, they played this game quite often on University computers with people in Europe and the States.

 Mortal Kombat 2 was a creation of Acclaim which used digital photography to create a semi-realistic fighting game. This game stirred up a lot of concern with parents because of the amount of violence. This and a few other games lead to the introduction of a category rating for games in America. The game is similar to Street Fighter but had fatality moves, friendship moves - and 'babalities'.

  These were special moves keyed in after, and just before, your opponent fell down in defeat. When you played and won a match, a deep booming voice would tell you to 'finish him'.

  A fatality move would kill your opponent in a bloody and very grotesque way. The friendship move is basically what it means - you kiss and make up.

  The babality move changes your opponent into a baby.

 Ridge Racer is a virtual car racing game that made its debut in the arcades in 1995 and heralded Namco's return to the forefront of the games industry after a long absence.

   Ridge Racer also uses 32 frames of graphics per second, which is more than the early Walt Disney cartoons, which used only 24 frames per second.
