Hong Kong Youth Ice Hockey HKFYG Cup - Kowloon Polaris takes home the gold
Organized by the Hong Kong Academy of Ice Hockey (HKAIH) in partnership with The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) and co-organized with the Hong Kong Amateur Hockey Club (HKAHC), the final Championship game of the Hong Kong Youth Ice Hockey Campaign (HKYIHC) took place on August 17 (Sunday) at Mega Ice.
Mr. Andy Ho, Deputy Executive Director of HKFYG is very pleased with the results of the games. “It’s great to see players develop and grow as an athlete through participating in this campaign. Many of the players did not even know how to skate before joining this campaign and it’s encouraging to see their improvement over these 15 months. We hope the players will take home more than just ice hockey knowledge but also learn how to work as a team.”
The HKYIHC aims to provide youth from all social levels and districts of Hong Kong to enjoy the opportunity to play ice hockey and learn how to be a team person.
This 15-month campaign is targeted to reach up to 4,000 youth aged from 8-16 from 18 districts in Hong Kong. After a tryout and selection process held in the summer of 2013, 4 district teams were formed and have undergone a comprehensive training programme conducted by professional coaches such as former NHL player, Barry Beck and former China National player, Tan Anqi.
The campaign is supported by the Home Affairs Bureau and Commission on Youth through the “2013 Large-scale Youth Programme Funding Scheme” and was also selected by the Hong Kong Government as one of the activities in the “HK Our Home” campaign, a city-wide public participation campaign that aims to inject positive energy into society, foster social cohesion and to promote care, mutual help and solidarity in the Hong Kong community.
