United States-based Exxon Co and Clean Seas standby emergency response teams has beaten a small oil spill which occurred at the Exxon Heritage Platform in the Santa Barbara Channel last week.
According to the US Coast Guard, the oil spill was about 50 barrels and created a sheen on the water about 10 kilometres offshore.
Under prevailing wind and sea conditions, the sheen poses no threat to the Santa Barbara coast. There have been no reports of an impact on wildlife.
The Heritage Platform, about 10 kilometres offshore and 40 kilometres west of Santa Barbara city, was immediately shut-in after the incident and remains closed.
