The bankruptcy of what was Germany's largest shipbuilder Bremer Vulkan will cost taxpayers as much as 400 million deutschemarks (about HK$2.02 billion).

The weekly magazine Focus said the planned construction of two luxury liners for an Italian cruise company was alone expected to add an extra 180 million marks to the shipbuilder's debts.
