Date set for Egan hearing

A JURY is expected to be empanelled on Tuesday to hear evidence against barrister Kevin Egan on charges connected with the escape from Hongkong of his former Legal Department colleague, Warwick Reid.

The trial is expected to last less than three weeks. Egan, 46, is charged with possessing a firearm without a licence, transferring his Australian passport to Reid and possessing arms and ammunition with intent to endanger life between October 1989 and January 1990.

During the two weeks of legal arguments, the Crown dropped one charge alleging Egan assisted Reid with intent to impede his apprehension or prosecution, and he was acquitted.
