What did the advertising bigwigs really have in mind when they came up with 'Yes, it hurt. Yes, it worked' as the new slogan for the ailing British Conservative Party? The slogan has other connotations, of course. Backbites is reminded of the Major government's 'return to Victorian values'. What would former minister David Mellor, a regular visitor to Hong Kong and an adviser to publisher Ma Ching-kwan's Oriental Press Group, make of it? His infamy stems from an adulterous affair he conducted with actress Antonia de Sancha, during which he made love to her while wearing his Chelsea soccer strip - peaked cap, team shirt, socks, but no shorts. The ensuing scandal cost him his job as the Minister for Fun. Yes, it hurt.
