Big win lifts territory to head of the class

A superior points difference has placed Hong Kong top of the quadrangular Pacific Rim Championship standings at the end of the first round of home and away games.

The territory have five points, the same as the United States and Canada. But because of a bigger for and against points difference, Hong Kong are presently ruling the roost. Japan are at the bottom with four points.

Hong Kong lost 34-27 in their first outing against Japan in Tokyo but followed it up with a resounding 33-9 win in the return game at the Aberdeen Stadium on Saturday.

As the margin of defeat was seven points in the first game, Hong Kong earned a crucial bonus point to add to their four points for Saturday's win.

Canada and USA also shared honours in their series. Canada bounced back from the 19-12 loss in San Francisco to defeat the Americans 24-20 on their home turf in Vancouver on Saturday.

Hong Kong's next two games will be at home - against Canada on June 1 and USA on June 9. The away games are on June 29 (USA) and July 6 (Canada).
