Mitsubishi mulls partnership
Mitsubishi Motors Corp is studying a plan to manufacture car engines in China jointly with a Chinese state-run defence contractor.
'Mitsubishi Motors is now conducting a feasibility study concerning the possibility of co-operating with Chinese General Co of Aeronautics Industry to help it shift to civilian production,' a Mitsubishi spokesman said.
The details of the plan had yet to be fixed, according to a newspaper report.
The Nikkan Kyogo Shimbun reported yesterday Mitsubishi Motors had reached an agreement with the Beijing-based Chinese concern to start production next year in the northern city of Shenyang, Liaoning province, with an initial output target of 50,000 engines a year.
