The economic growth that swept many Americans into an affluent consumer society in the 1920s is now taking place in many Asian homes and businesses. Asian markets with more sophisticated demands and preferences are looking for opportunities to bring leading-edge technologies and solutions into their day-to-day world. Elkay Manufacturing satisfies these aspirations with its innovative plumbing, drinking and commercial kitchen solutions.

Starting as a high-quality custom sink manufacturer in 1920, Elkay was established at a time when electricity and plumbing became standard in American homes and business establishments. The company began as a vision of the father-and-son team Leopold and Louis Katz when they built the family-owned business on the hallmarks of quality, delivery and service.

Elkay's engineering and manufacturing methods have set industry standards for stainless steel sinks and pressure water coolers for almost a century. It applies its precision engineering and total solutions design capabilities to the needs of the food service, hospitality and retail fixtures industries.

"Our systems and solutions are built to deliver quality," says Stephen Rogers, president of Elkay International. "If you want a product that's going to last, you'll buy an Elkay product."

Elkay's team of experts works closely with builders of commercial kitchens, hotels and retail stores to design and deliver custom solutions for their needs, including large wash sinks, racking, tables and architectural millwork. Elkay seeks to replicate in Asia the success it has experienced in North America.

Seeking more opportunities to market its line of durable, weather-resistant bottle filling stations in Asia, Elkay is inviting partnerships while examining water delivery practices in China to comply with area-specific issues such as advanced filtration and purification processes. The company's environmentally-friendly bottle filling stations can be set up for outdoor applications, including college campuses and recreational areas. "Our pressure water coolers minimise plastic bottle waste and are very durable," Rogers says.

Expanding its global footprint to solidify its international business, Elkay is modifying its products for domestic markets, with a sharp focus on China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and Southeast Asia. It is also strengthening its stainless steel sink and kitchen business for residential consumers in China.

"We look for long-term opportunities and aim for continuous improvement," Rogers says. "We want to become more significant in Asia, so we honour local cultures and codes, and strive to meet the demands of our customers. We want to ride the wave into China and offer products that markets there are looking for."
