Mainland officials join in seminars

Five seminars where leading business people, overseas trade officials and Chinese Government officials will discuss the latest trade issues will be held today.


Talks will be in English, Cantonese or Putonghua, depending on the speaker.


In theatre one at 10 am, the Deputy Director of the Guangdong Commission of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade, Liao Guoji , will touch on China trade reforms and foreign investment, export tax rebate, import tariff reduction and the customs duty security system for processing trade.


Other speakers will include Stephen Lee, partner of Ernst & Young, Edward Leung, TDC chief economist, and Eddie Leung, president of Dailywin Watch Products Manufacturing.


At 2 pm, Anna Lin, chief executive of the Hong Kong Article Numbering Association, and Carmen Cheung, strategic development manager of Wellcome, will talk on business applications of electronic data interchange.


The developments in the China services market will be explained at 3.45 pm by Leong Guoqiang , senior researcher of the Development Research Centre of the China Foreign Economic Relations Department.


Other speakers will include Alan Wong, assistant executive director of TDC.


The consuls general of Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru will talk about trading opportunities in South America at 2 pm in theatre two.


They will be followed at 3.45 pm by Russia's Consul-General, Kirill Konstantinovich Ivanov, who will talk about business opportunities.TDC economist Michelle Kam will join him in the seminar.
