The Watson's Athletic Club (WAC) pair of women's triple jumper Anthea Li Chun-nei and men's thrower Sammy Fong Charm-hung led a Hong Kong medals spree at the three-day Philippines Open Championships, which ended in Manila yesterday.

Li took gold with a leap of 11.32 metres and also finished third in the long jump with an effort of 5.77 metres.

Hammer throw specialist Fong won the silver and set a Hong Kong record with a heave of 52.34 metres, which easily bettered his own record of 51.96, set at last year's Philippines Championships.

Yuen Long District Sports Club all-rounder Chang Yu-ho also impressed with three bronze medals in the men's long jump (6.95 metres), triple jump (15.10 metres) and high jump (2.12 metres).

Meanwhile, WAC's top women's middle distance runner, Maggie Cha Man-yee, smashed her own Hong Kong 1,500 metres record when she clocked four minutes and 21.77 seconds at Stanford University in the United States.

Chan's time, which easily bettered her own 4:25.46 set earlier this month, opens the door for her to compete in the NCAA Championships.
