Let down over lecture
As a form seven graduate, I am really appalled by the performance of the Department of Chemistry of the Chinese University of Hong Kong on May 25, which was the day of admissions seminars for form seven students.
According to the timetable provided, a chemistry seminar session was to be held at the department, at lecture theatre L2, in the Science Museum, on May 25, between 2pm and 3pm. As someone who is enthusiastic about this subject, I decided to attend and I arrived at the venue on time.
I waited along with several other students outside a lecture theatre with the lights and air-conditioning both on for half an hour, but no one came and there was no sign of the seminar beginning. No one came to tell us whether or not the seminar had been cancelled.
I do not blame the Chemistry Department for cancelling the seminar if there were insufficient numbers of students showing an interest, but at the very least, there should have been a sign up informing us that the seminar was off.
I and the other students who had shown a genuine interest in the subject of chemistry, were very disappointed by this attitude on the part of the department of an elite university.
