Anthony Woo

Five men were under arrest last night after a car chase led to the discovery of $17 million worth of high-grade heroin.

Narcotics Bureau officers spotted the target vehicle in Kowloon early yesterday. As the vehicle headed north the pursuit gained pace.

The car was finally intercepted outside the Yuen Long Light Rapid Transit terminus at 11.25 am.

The car, which was surrounded by four unmarked police vehicles, tried to ram through the blockade but crashed to a halt.

Officers found 10.5 kilograms of the suspected drug in the boot of the Honda Civic.

The injured 32-year-old driver was arrested and his 30-year-old passenger, who fled, was caught nearby.

After further inquiries, police arrested three men and found another car in Sai Ching Street, Yuen Long.

Five officers were slightly hurt in the collision and needed hospital treatment.
