Slimming the the menu at The Pen

The hallowed dining rooms of The Peninsula's restaurants - The Verandah, Gaddi's and Chesa - are not places you visit to lose weight (except from your wallet, of course), but from June 24-30, the hotel plays host to the culinary team from the upmarket Swiss health resort, Domaine du Royal Club Evien.

The chefs will set up shop primarily in The Verandah with their sophisticated, yet slimming, cuisine - creating dishes using bouillon, fish, lean meats and vegetable, vinegar and fruit-based sauces.

Each dish will be carefully calorie-controlled and menus will show the calorific value of each item.

Probably not a practice The Peninsula will continue when The Verandah returns to its usual divine, but frighteningly fattening sauces and dessert menus when the diet police leave.

Fathers are the men of the moment - well, as far as the hotels are concerned anyway, with most offering special Father's Day buffets and lunches this Sunday.

The upmarket Grissini, in the Grand Hyatt hotel, is offering a lunch buffet from noon until 2.30pm ($375, adults; $175, children).

The Regal Hong Kong has special Father's Day menus in its food and beverage outlets including a Sunday brunch and barbecue at the Riviera.

Cost: $288 adults, $144 children.

Meanwhile, the Hyatt Regency is marking Father's Day with brunch at Hugo's ($438, $298) and buffets in Nathan's and the Cafe ($228, $128).

Fathers dining at the hotel on Sunday will receive a gift.
